For your first Rhacodactylus gecko, I say go with a crested gecko...they're smaller, generally more agreeable with being handled - and if you decide you want to breed them, it's MUCH easier!
Leachies are great, but they're not exactly easy to handle as adults...they have a strong grip and sharp...
Thanks Aliza - and big thanks to Matthew for adding pics of the new stuff!
Just FYI - There are a few geckos in that article that have literally been seen before... a couple of baby Tangerine Phantom Pinstripe Super Dalmatians, one of our new Chocolate Pinstripes and a couple of up and coming...
Just make sure all the retained shed is off of any vital areas...face/nostrils/eyes. Also make sure that any stuck shed is at lest broken around the tail, limbs and toes...you don't need to get all of that off, just enough that the skin won't restrict the flow of blood to these outer...
Racks work great for cresteds. Just make sure the container is at least 9-12" high and they'll do fine.
We had these racks custom made by Animal Plastics. They hold a 66 quart container. We also have some racks that hold a Sterilite 58 quart (from WalMart).
You might look again at the store. When Allen was testing the superhatch (I designed all the labels for his stuff), his main concern was finding somewhere that would sell him enough of it in bulk that he could at get it cheap enough to match the prices they're charging at local garden stores...
Both work equally well. Vermiculite is way more messy, though...to the point of being a nuisance when you're putting up lots of babies every day. I think the reason people like it is because it feels better to the touch and you can see if it's getting dry. We just weigh and "top off" our egg...
I'm plugging away at the new website....hoping to launch within the next 5-6 days. Here's the first round of photos I did of some new breeders coming up. They'll be explained a little better on the website, but this will at least wet everyone's whistle. ;D
Orange Pinstripe ("fader" type)...
The short answer is yes, but they probably won't. That's actually covered in the FAQ at Ciliatus.com.
Here's a link...
Can crested geckos eat meal worms?
For what it's worth, mealworms are a great food source for geckos, contrary to what a lot of people have been led to believe. Geckos have...
They're both great for beginners and they're so different that it's really tough to compare them.
I do think cresteds edge the leos out just barely in terms of being easier for beginners.
No heating required, rarely any health problems (lots of leos end up with MBD, heavy parasite loads and...
Hey guys/girls,
I normally don't make a big stink about our availability updates here, but this time we have a bunch of subadult holdbacks and I figured I'd probably catch flack from at least a few of you if I didn't!
There are males and females available, but most of the extreme tangs are...
Our setup isn't top end professional (and I did have it in my house at one point!), but I do have the same type of equipment that professionals use...and believe it or not, it's still not easy to get 100% color representation. Especially with tangerines.
I agree with Paul...it's really...
I was the same way getting into high end Tangs. I thought they looked cool in the pictures, but wasn't really expecting them to look as different as they do. In person, they actually looked a lot nicer.
If you aren't sure who to go with, I can tell you that Urban Gecko, Hot Geckos (Dan...
That's what mutations do when they're established...drop like a rock. lol
That's OK, though...they still offer so much potential in making new combos...selectively bred combos are what we were after when we bought our first two. Plain enigmas might be $20 in wholesale now, but extreme...
Thanks everyone! I know everyone says this, but this gecko honestly does look nicer in person. There's actually bright yellow and almost red (instead of orange) in there...but he just looks white-ish and orange in pictures. :main_angry:
I forget who asked (and am too lazy to click back)...
Oddly enough, this was just one of the babies we sold this year. A good customer had some family issues come up and we never ended up shipping it...by the time I got around to putting it back up for sale, it started looking like this.
This boy will be breeding some of our Tornado x Electric...
