Do smooth knobbies bury tunnels underneath their cool hide, and do they burrow under their warm hide or do they just lay on the surface on the warm end to gather belly heat.

Mine always burrow on the cool damp end and bask on the hot end. The hot end doesn't hold moisture well enough to burrow into, which is handy as it means they don't lay their eggs directly onto heat.

I am new to knobbies.I have an upside down saucer on the cool end which they burrow to get underneath. On the hot end do I have to make a doorway or will they burrow underneath to get at the heat.

Put a hide on both ends so that they can choose to bask in private if they want to. You want the sand on the hot end to reach approx 32 degrees and approx 28 on the cool end.
