Stuck skin/scale in nose

My ball python appears to have some skin or a scale stuck near
or just inside her nostril and its affecting her breathing, she keeps
breathing loudly trying to clear her nose and sometimes opens her
mouth. I have just started putting in a shedbox again and I've tried
a damp cotton bud to try and rub it off. How can I remove this?

Are you sure that's why she's breathing loudly/gaping? Could she possibly have a respiratory infection?

We think she had one before but it was because I had her on woodchips
for a week but its since cleared up I think, she seems better since then
and is now back on aspen. Before she sounded snuffly and like she had a
cold and she began opening her mouth alot. Now it just looks like a stuck
scale or skin I can see abit hanging off but I can't get to it easily.
