New tank and I don't know what to put in it!

I just got a 45 gallon tank a few days ago. It's dimensions are 3 foot long 1 foot wide and 2 foot high. My boyfriend and I want to put something new in it (not gecko related) but I don't even know where to begin! We thought of an aquatic turtle, but I'm assuming that it is not wide enough for one.
The tank does have the possibility of being semi-aquatic (i don't want to make it fully aquatic cause it will weight too much!

Any suggestions? I'm open to anything right now!

I was looking at snakes and was thinking maybe a hognose or corn snake? I'm not really sure on those two. Does anyone have info on hognose snakes? Are they docile in captivity?
