Question about female leopard gecko lengths

My female leopard gecko is of unknown age to me. I got her from y bus driver from school when I was like In middles school (I'm a sophomore is college now). But I was told she won't get past 5 maybe 6 inches. Can someone please tell me why my female gecko is now going on 8 inches and she is very much still growing? Do I perhaps have her gender wrong?

When they told you it would be only 5-6 inches, were they measuring from tip of nose to tip of tail, or from tip of nose to the vent (where the tail begins)? Of course there's no way to know the answer to that question now, I imagine. I don't think 8" is that huge for a leopard gecko, and it's not the case that males are always bigger than females.
